MSA designed the landscape for Great Woods (Now known as The Tweeter Center) in 1983. The 900 acre public amphitheater accommodates popular and classical musical performances and is the summer home to the Pittsburgh Symphony. In the initial design stages, the firm was consultant for site evaluation and planning, vehicular and pedestrian circulation patterns, security issues, planting design, lighting and layout for the main entry and concession areas. We created a space that was both secure and open to the surrounding woodland. Areas are easily identified and accessible. Up to 20,000 patrons use the facility during sell-out show. We provided construction drawings, landscape contract arrangements and site supervision. Great Woods is the only amphitheater of its size in New England.
Ongoing work at Great Woods has encompassed additional plantings at the entrances, extensive perennial and native wild-flower plantings and the design and plantings for a tent area used for preconcert private parties.
